After a slow start, the Sully Buttes Charger volleyball team picked up the pace, but it was too little too late as they fall 25-12, 25-21, 25-21 to Herreid Selby Area Thursday night in Selby.
Unforced errors did in the Chargers in the first set, but after that both teams came out swinging, as the lead changed numerous times in the final two sets. It was the Wolverines defense and strength at the net that made the final difference in the match. Leading the way for the Chargers was seniors Trichelle White and Stevie Wittler, both playing in their final volleyball matches for Sully Buttes, each tallying five kills, while junior Payge Bakker added six kills for 13-18 Sully Buttes.
Herreid Selby Area was led by sophomore Jordyn Rossow, who finished with eight kills, with strong front corner play by the Wolverine offense.
The Wolverines up its record to 21-6, and will advance to the SoDak 16 Tuesday to face fifth seeded Burke at a yet to be determined site.
