PIERRE. (KCCR) — A Hughes County jury has convicted a Pierre man for assaulting and threatening detainment deputies at the Hughes County Jail. Thirty year-old Isaiah Rouse was convicted on three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of threatening a law enforcement officer or family. Four detention deputies were assaulted during attacks in the jail on January 13th and February 25th of this year. Rouse faces up to 75 years in prison and a year in the Hughes County Jail. That time could be extended at sentencing. Habitual offender information has been filed in the case. If Rouse is found guilty of being a habitual offender, the maximum possible sentence could increase to a possible 150 years in prison. A sentencing date for Rouse has not been set. The case was prosecuted by Jessica LaMie, who started the case as Hughes County State’s Attorney and finished it as an Assistant Attorney General in the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office. Attorney General Marty Jackley says the case is another example of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers as they work to keep communities across the state safe.
