Governors Drop Four Set Match to O’Gorman Friday, Reverse Sweep Aberdeen Central Saturday

After losing the Friday match to O’Gorman, the Pierre Governor volleyball team had to get the win on Saturday against Aberdeen Central to still have hope in hosting a SoDak 16 contest. The Governors, down 2-0, would come back and reverse sweep the Golden Eagles for the win.

Friday’s match against O’Gorman came down to the third set between the two teams. After the Governors picked up a first set win 25-21, OG tied it a set apiece 25-19. The third set had to go extra points, but it was the Lady Knights to take it 29-27. The momentum went all on the O’Gorman side to finish out the night with a 25-15 set win. Kiera McManus had 14 kills to lead O’Gorman while Makenzie Walsh had 13. The Governors had 14 kills from Reese Terwilliger, the only Governor in double figures.

On Saturday, the Governors would drop the first two sets to Aberdeen Central 25-12 and 27-25 and the home playoff game hopes was quickly fading. However Pierre responded with a 25-18, 25-15 and then a 15-12 reverse sweep win. Abigail Kropp had 17 kills to lead all hitters on the afternoon while Terwilliger had 10. Campbell Boddicker had a strong second half of the match finishing with 15 kills, 10 which came in sets four and five. Lauryn Burckhard had 14 kills to lead Aberdeen Central.

The Governors are now 10-8 on the season with two matches remaining. The Govs will face Brookings this Tuesday and Jefferson the following Tuesday, both at home. Coverage of Tuesday’s match will begin at 6:30 with first serve at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
