Undermanned Chargers Fall in First Round of 9B Playoffs

The Kadoka Area Kougars used the double wing formation to perfection to wear down the Sully Buttes Chargers despite fairly close statistics from the game coming away with a solid 38-22 victory to end the Chargers season in Onida Thursday night. The Chargers were without leading rusher Gavin Barber and tackle Preston Kinney, along with various bumps and bruises from the season.

Three touchdowns by Gus Stout, along with 307 total yards on the ground kept the Kougars on the field offensively. Despite finishing the game with 352 total offensive yards, the Chargers racked up 340 yards, with 181 on the ground and 159 through the air. Turnovers cost Sully Buttes early in the game and the Chargers trailed 22-8 at the half.

After the Kougars took their first drive 75 yards down the field, they took their first possession of the second half 97 yards after a stalled Charger drive and put the score out to 30-8.

After another Kougar TD to make the score 38-8, the Chargers mounted a comeback with a Kadyn Westergren 23 yard score and a Wesley Witter to Logan Severson 32 yard strike with 11 seconds remaining in the game to cap the night.

The Chargers finish at 3-6 while the Kougars move up to 4-5 and a date next Thursday in Faulkton against the second seeded Trojans.
