Governors Dominate Final Game of Regular Season Beating Douglas

The Pierre Governor football team would pick up a 64-6 win over the Douglas Patriots on Thursday night to close the season at 8-1 and will be the top seed in the 11AA playoffs.

The Governors had a seven play drive with a Cade Kaiser to Jett Zabel 26 yard pass and catch to get Pierre up 7-0 quickly in the first quarter. However, a 3rd-and-15 pass from Douglas would be tipped twice by the Governors into the hands of Isaiah Brewer and he would scamper 60 yards to make it 7-6. But it would be the Governors who would start to roll with Trey Lewis taking the ensuing kickoff back 90 yards for a touchdown and Pierre would lead 41-6 at the end of the first quarter. Kaiser would throw for 203 yards and five touchdown passes, two to Zabel and one to Tyan Buss, George Stalley and Keenan Scott. Trevor Rounds would catch a touchdown pass from Kaleb Lounsbury and Hayden Schaffer would score on a 15 yard run. Ryann Barry would hit a 24 yard field on her first ever field goal attempt.

With Sturgis beating Spearfish, the Governors lock up the top seed and will face the Spearfish Spartans in the first round of the 11AA playoffs next week Thursday. Coverage will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
