The Pierre Governors would survive against a tough Tea Area squad battling the elements and limited passing game in a 26-18 victory over the Titans Friday night.
Neither team would complete a pass in the first half with the winds and rain being a constant factor and thorn in the side of both teams although playing to Tea’s strong suit. The Titans would jump out first by a Brenner Konrad quarterback keep for a 26 yard touchdown. Carson Stoeser would block the ensuing extra point before the Governors would get its own score on a quarterback keeper by Cade Kaiser of 42 yards to go up 7-6. With under a minute remaining in the half and Tea up 12-7, Trey Lewis would pick off a pass and return inside the 30 yard line and a 15 yard facemask penalty would help set up another Kaiser run, this time from seven yards out to put Pierre up 14-12 at the break. In one of the three completed passes for Pierre, Kaiser would find Jett Zabel for a 68 yard score in the third quarter to increase the lead to 20-12 and Zabel, lined up at QB would score from 28 yards out in the fourth quarter to seal the win at 26-18 for the Govs to improve to 7-1 on the season while Tea Area falls to 5-3.
Kaiser would rush for 124 yards and Zabel another 73 as the two also hooked up for all three completions totaling 98 yards. Pierre out-gained the Titans 286-263.
The Governors will close out the regular season on Thursday with a home game against the Douglas Patriots. Game time is set for 7:00 with coverage beginning at 6:30 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
