PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota State Railroad Board heard presentations this week from many of the railroads that cross the state looking to take advantage of federal Special Transportation Circumstance or S-T-C grants. Ringneck and Western Railroad General Manager Ryan Yanez says they are looking to fund stabilization efforts on the former Mitchell to Rapid City line in Lyman, Brule and Aurora Counties…

Yanez says their project will bring a number of benefits to the line…

Yanez says they run quite a bit of traffic to elevators in Lyman County…

The Ringneck plan is over 10-point-eight million dollars with the railroad seeking eight-point-three million in S-T-C funding . Over 58-million dollars in S-T-C grant funds are available for South Dakota. The state gets access to the money because there is no commercial passenger train traffic in South Dakota.
