September Missouri River Runoff Reported Above Average

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Runoff into the Missouri River in September was above average. The U-S Army Corps of Engineers says September runoff above Sioux City, Iowa was one-point-three million acre feet or 109=percent of average. Precipitation in the Missouri River basin was split for the month. Most of the upper basin in parts of Montana, the Dakotas and Nebraska got above average rainfall while while the remainder of the basin received below average rainfall. The annual runoff forecast for the basin above Sioux City is unchanged at 29-point-one million acre feet or 113-percent of average. Total systemwide storage as of September 30th was 52-point-two million acre-feet which is just under two-million acre-feet below the base of the flood control zone. Corps officials expect system storage to decline to around four-million acre-feet below the base of the flood control zone to start the 2024 runoff season.
