Chargers Knock off Pirates in Three the Hard Way

The Sully Buttes Charger volleyball team, fresh off of a four set loss Monday night on the road needed three hard fought sets to sweep the scrappy Highmore-Harrold Pirates by the scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 26-24 Tuesday night in Onida.

Both teams rallied through numerous volleys, and it came down to net play to help the Chargers push their record to 11-10, and a one week break before their next action. Sully Buttes also had to rally late after the Pirates had the lead at the 20 point mark in the second set. In the third set, Sully Buttes trailed 24-22, but clipped off four straight points to steal the victory.

Stevie Wittler, Trichelle White and Madison Bradberry, along with Payge Bakker worked blocks and kills throughout the night, but the Pirates were undeterred keeping the blocks alive, digging out kill shots and went back on the attack.

Bradberry, Wittler and White led the way with nine, eight and six kills respectively while the Pirates were led by senior Kendall Cermak with eight kills.

The Pirates drop to 8-13 on the season and will host 13-6 Wessington Springs Friday night at the Hyde County Auditorium.

Sully Buttes will travel to Ft. Pierre to take on the 11-5 Stanley County Lady Buffs Tuesday. You can hear the call on Country 95.3FM.
