Soccer Concludes Regular Season with Rescheduled Match in Aberdeen

The Pierre Governor soccer teams are set to finish the regular season today as they travel to Aberdeen in a rescheduled game due to extreme heat facing the Golden Eagles in a boys and girls doubleheader.

The two teams were originally scheduled to play on Tuesday, August 22, but the temperatures were not going to cool off for both games to be played. But as the girls will play the first game of the day, it’s a switch to playoff mode facing a top five team in Aberdeen Central who just beat previously undefeated Mitchell on Tuesday. An 11-0 win for Pierre on Tuesday was exactly what they needed against Huron, but now the challenges will be tougher and can treat the game like the playoffs. Pierre’s secured a first round home game as the eight seed, but want to finish strong in the regular season.

The Governor boys are looking for a final win to jump them up in the standings. Pierre’s not going to miss the playoffs, but are the 16 seed right now if nothing changes. While the 16 beat the top seed last year, the Governors would like a more favorable matchup in the first round of the playoffs and need a win to make that possible. Aberdeen Central is 7-4 after beating Mitchell 9-2 on Tuesday.

Kickoff of the girls game will be first at 4:00 with the boys game to follow at Aberdeen Central High School.
