Girls Shutout Huron, Boys Shutout in Final Home Game

The Pierre Governor soccer teams would see two shutouts on Tuesday with the girls being on the good side with an 11-0 win while the boys would fall 3-0.

Grace Engbrecht would score the first goal of the game just a minute and a half into the contest. However, Pierre would have plenty of chances over the 19 minutes but couldn’t score until Bria Sargent would make it 2-0 and open the flood the gates. All within the final 20 minutes of the half Pierre would add to Sargent’s goal with Ryann Barry and Lexie Hillmer scoring along with Jasimine Jost scoring twice to make it 6-0 at the break. Jost would finish the hat trick in the second half as Josephine Wurtz, Sargent’s second, Devyn Van Roekel and Natalie Flottmeyer all scoring to explode for an 11-0 shortened game win. Pierre improves to 8-3-1.

In the boys contest, Pierre couldn’t quite finish at the net. While storming out to a strong start with plenty of chances, Huron would hold the Govs at bay before Lay Mwe Thaw would get the first goal of the game. In the second half, off a free kick, Aung Aung Htoo would make it 2-0 scoring with 29 minutes remaining. Sey Heh would finish off the scoring for the Tigers picking up a 3-0 victory. While senior goalkeeper Haley Fabel would have liked a couple of the shots back, he made 10 saves in net, some highlight reel saves. Pierre drops to 3-6-3.

The Governors will finish the regular season on Thursday in Aberdeen to face the Golden Eagles. Kickoff of the girls game is at 4:00 with the boys game to follow.
