The Pierre Governor soccer teams would split its doubleheader on Saturday as the Jefferson Cavaliers would win the boys game 7-1 but the Governor girls would get a 3-1 win.
The Governors would go down quickly as the Cavaliers would score in the first three minutes and add a second getting late in the half. However, off a free kick with about five minutes remaining in the half, Lucas Hight would score his first of the year to pull the Govs within 2-1. However, the momentum would be short lived as the Cavs would take a 3-1 lead at the break and add another four in the second half to pick up the win. Pierre falls to 3-5-3 while the Cavs improve to 7-2-1.
The Governor girls were in desperate need of picking up a win with the a potential first round home game on the line and facing the nine ranked team in the AA standings. Pierre would get the win as Ryann Barry would get the first goal of the game scoring on a free kick from about 25 yards. Pierre would lead 1-0 at halftime before Natalie Flottmeyer would put in a cross from Brianna Sargent to make it 2-0 and then Barry would notch her second on a ball crossed into the box and Barry would redirect it off a Cavalier player in front to make it 3-0 for the Govs before finishing the win at 3-1. Pierre improves to 7-3-1 and into seventh place in the AA standings.
The Governors will face the Huron Tigers on Tuesday for the final home game of the season. The girls will play first at 4:00 and the boys will follow at 6:00. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
