Avera Selects James Dover To Lead Health System As President, CEO

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Avera Health announced Wednesday that James Dover will take over as President and Chief Executive Officer. Dover becomes Avera’s third President and C-E-O and is assuming the role vacated by Bob Sutton when Sutton resigned earlier this year to focus on his health. Dover is coming to South Dakota from Lansing, Michigan-based Sparrow Health where he served in the same capacity since 2019. Sparrow is a regional health system based in mid-Michigan that includes a Level One Trauma hospital, four regional hospitals, specialty long-term acute care hospitals and a provider of a sponsored insurance plan, Sparrow has 120 sites of care. Avera has 37 hospitals, 200 clinics, 40 long-term care facilities and over 200-thousand employees. Sister Mary Kay Panowicz of Avera’s Board of Directors says Dover is an engaging and compassionate leader who will take Avera into its next era of serving the communities health needs and employees.
