BELVIDERE, (KCCR) — The name of a man who was struck and killed by a pick-up on Interstate 90 in Jackson County last weekend has been released. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 55 year-old Shane Ghost of Belvidere exited the median between the lanes of travel and onto the eastbound lanes when he was struck by a 2018 Chevy Silverado driven by 55 year-old Robert Volpe of Fort Madison, Iowa. Volpe tried to slow down but was not able to avoid hitting Ghost. Volpe was using a seat belt and was not injured in the collision. The crash happened a mile east of Belvidere near mile marker 164 around two-am on Saturday, September 16th. The Highway Patrol is continuing it’s investigation of the crash. The Patrol has not indicated why Ghost was in the median so early in the morning or why tried getting on the driving surface.
