The Pierre Governor soccer teams are back at home after its latest two match road trip with the Yankton Bucks and Gazelles in town today.
The Governor boys are coming off a 4-2 win over Mitchell on Saturday and play a Yankton team who has been atop the AA standings over the last several years. The Bucks come in today at 7-2-1 and in fourth place in the standings. The Govs, at 3-4-2, are in 15th place and a win today will help propel them in the standings with the playoffs starting two weeks from today and the regular season ending next week Thursday in Aberdeen.
The Governor girls are facing a Gazelle team who hasn’t seen the success the boys team has had over the last several years, but are still 4-5-1 coming into the game this evening. The Governors are flirting with the 8-9 seeds and wins down the stretch are important to make sure they end with at least a first round home playoff game. A showdown with Jefferson is looming on Saturday, but the Govs can’t overlook the Gazelles team.
Kickoff of the boys game is scheduled for 4:00 with the girls game to follow at 6:00 at the Pierre Indian Learning Center Fields.
