Mayor Breaks Tie On Vote To Remove Fort Pierre Drainage Easement

FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Fort Pierre City Council needed the tie breaking vote of Mayor Gloria Hanson to approve a resolution to vacate a drainage easement in the city. Public Works Director Rick Hahn says the easement, in place since 2015, is being requested to be removed by a property owner…

Hahn says the easement is not big; around five-feet wide and 20-feet long. The easement didn’t provide utility access behind the property. Council member Larry Cronin resisted the action to release the easement…

Cronin suggested the city purchase available land to provide separate access to city utilities in the area. Council member Todd Bernhard questioned Cronin on the value of the property…

Cronin had support from Council members Scott Deal and Greg Kenzy in voting against releasing the easement. Voting in favor of vacating the easement were Bernhard, Callie Iverson and Rick Cronin. Hanson broke the tie with a yes-vote allowing the drainage easement to be vacated.
