Strong Second Half Propels Chargers to Victory over Cowboys

After being tied 14-14 at the half and nearly identical yardage totals, the Sully Buttes Chargers found rhythm in the second half to pull away with a 38-14 win over the Colome Cowboys Friday night in Onida.

At halftime, the Cowboys controlled the game with a total of 113 yards to the Chargers 97. The Cowboys took advantage of good field position to help tally their two TDs both in the hands of quarterback Eli Vobr. The Chargers answered with scoring passes from Wesley Wittler to Atticus Miles for 49 yards and a 29 yard strike to Gavin Colson.

In the second half the Chargers found their stride with a Wittler 37 yard run, a Gavin Barber 63 yard run, followed by another scoring run of 15 yards and capped the night offensively with a Wittler 28 yard run up the middle.

The Chargers totaled 326 yards offensively for the game, compared to Colome’s 204 total on the ground and through the air.

Sully Buttes, now 2-3, will travel to Selby and face the Herreid Selby Area Wolverines who fell to Ipswich 44-20, while the 1-3 Cowboys will face Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy, 45-18 losers to Howard Friday night.
