Aberdeen Driver Cited For Trying To Drive Box Truck Under Rail Bridge, Backing Over Light Pole

PIERRE, (KCCR) — Another truck has fallen out of favor with Pierre’s infamous railroad viaduct. Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says a 2019 Ford F-750 box truck owned by Dugan’s Sales and Service of Watertown attempted to pass under the structure Wednesday morning around 11:45 am. Pelle says 39-year-old Branden Kroll of Aberdeen was southbound on Pierre Street when he tried to pass under the bridge with the truck. A witness, Trish Jurgensen posted a video of the incident to social media showing Kroll as he attempted to back up after striking the bridge and causing serious damage to roof of the cargo box….

Kroll was able to remove the truck from under the elevated rail crossing but drove into a light pole, causing the pole to fall over onto the sidewalk. Pelle says Kroll was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal. The bridge has an 11-foot, three-inch non-standard height which is marked by numerous signs approaching the bridge and two flashing yellow lamps above the drive lane before passing under.
