Pierre Woman Pleads Not Guilty To Child Abuse Charges

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre woman has pleaded not guilty to charges against her in Hughes County. During a short arraignment hearing Tuesday 42 year-old Brandi Jo Barringer pleaded not guilty to two charges of Contributing to the Abuse, Neglect or Delinquency of a Minor. Barringer was indicted by a Hughes County grand jury in May. In court, Sixth Circuit Court Judge Bridget Mayer read the pair of charges out to Barringer. Mayer, reading from the charges, said the crimes are alleged to have occurred between January of 2020 and May of 2022. Barringer’s attorney Jamie Damon asked Mayer for a follow-up court date in mid-November. Barringer is currently free after posting a one-thousand dollar cash bond in May. The charges are Class One Misdemeanors that carry a year of jail time and a fine of two-thousand dollars per each count. The charges are the result of a follow-up investigation into allegations posted on social media three years ago.
