Pierre Man Arrested For Trying To Use Fake $100 At Local Business

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man is arrested Sunday for trying to use fake money at a Pierre business. Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says officers were called to the 600 block of West Sioux Avenue around 2:30 Sunday afternoon after getting a report of a person trying to pass fake currency. Police learned through their investigation of a male subject who entered the store in question and tried to purchase items with a fake one-hundred dollar bill. The store rejected the attempted sale and the subject left the store, leaving the fake bill behind. Authorities located the suspect a few blocks away. Once officers were able to determine the bill was not real, they arrested 22 year-old Brandon McLaughlin on a charge of Possessing a Forged Instrument with Intent to Defraud. The charge is a Class six felony, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and or a four-thousand dollar fine.
