The Pierre Governor volleyball team would sweep the weekend, but not without two vastly different matches sweeping Sturgis on Friday and coming back and winning in five sets against Spearfish on Saturday.
The Governors didn’t allow Sturgis to even reach 10 points in any of the three sets on Friday with 25-6, 25-9 and 25-9. Pierre overall didn’t even allow Sturgis to score 25 points on the night as they rolled to a second straight win. However, Saturday wouldn’t be the same. Pierre would defeat Spearfish in five sets with a 25-17, 25-27, 23-25, 25-14 and 15-12. The Spartans, who are now 3-11 have the middle attack working all afternoon as Maria Bouman would place 17 kills and Adelyn Bouman another 14. Spearfish showed great defense throughout the match as well and even with 58 kills overall from Pierre, it didn’t come easy. Reese Terwilliger and Campbell Boddicker each had 16 kills to lead the team with Abigail Kropp adding another 12. Boddicker also had eight aces for the Govs who survived a near disaster seed point wise with the record Spearfish has.
The Governors are now 6-1, on its second straight three game winning streak and will travel to Sioux Falls to face the Washington Warriors on Tuesday. Coverage of the match will begin at 6:30 with first serve at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
