The undefeated, top ranked Faulkton Area Trojans played solid defense, and consistent offense to defeat the Sully Buttes Chargers 56-20 in a Friday afternoon matinee in Onida. The game was played early, so officials of the game could work another contest Friday evening.
The Trojans used a balanced attack of rushing and passing to keep Sully Buttes away from the football. And to back it up they were stout defensively to take away the Chargers main weapon Gavin Barber, limiting him to 42 yards rushing.
Senior quarterback Layne Cotton found success through the air, and scored four TD’s passing. Senior back Garrett Cramer led the way on the ground with 109 yards rushing.
The Chargers found some success, as sophomore quarterback Wesley Wittler had two TD passes, both to Barber, but could not sustain any consistent offense against a smothering defense by Faulkton Area.
The Chargers were without three starters, Lucas Arcoran, Trever Marshall and Preston Kinney due to injuries. But even at full strength the Trojans used their deep bench and veteran lineup to keep their record perfect at 4-0. The Trojans now face Northwestern next week, while the 1-3 Chargers will be at home and back in the evening to take on the Colome Cowboys. Kickoff is at 7:00 with that contest being broadcast on Country 95.3FM, pierrecountry dot com and on YouTube on Country 95.3 sports.
At halftime the Homecoming royalty was recognized to close out Homecoming Week.
