The Pierre Governor volleyball team will wrap up its busy weekend playing both Friday and Saturday hosting the Sturgis Scoopers and Spearfish Spartans.
The two teams will also play Aberdeen Central on the road this weekend as the four teams alternate each year on the travel. Both teams are sitting towards the bottom of the AA standings early on in the season as Friday’s opponent, Sturgis, is at 2-5 to begin the season. The Scoopers had started out at 0-5 but beat Red Cloud and Custer in its last two matches to head into the weekend on a solid note.
Spearfish comes into the weekend at 3-9 on the season but have only played two best-of-five sets so far in the year. The Spartans lost to Hill City 3-2 and then were swept by Rapid City Christian on Tuesday. Spearfish has wins over Moorcroft and Cheyenne Central out of Wyoming and Scottsbluff, Nebraska and are just 0-3 against South Dakota AA opponents.
Friday’s contest against Sturgis will begin with first serve at 7:00 at the Riggs High School gym. Saturday’s match facing Spearfish will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with coverage starting at 1:30 and first serve at 2:00.
