PIERRE, (KCCR) — South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has selected Robert Perry as the next Secretary of the Department of Public Safety. Perry will take over for Craig Price, who is retiring in September. Perry will take control of D-P-S on September 22nd. Price started his 22 year law enforcement career as a state Trooper in 1997 with the goal of retiring in 2023. Perry has an extensive law enforcement background starting in 1990 as a Trooper for the Pennsylvania State Police. Ironically, the same year Price became a Trooper, Perry joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation which included service in Pierre. Perry became a Supervisory Special Agent and rose to Assistant Inspector in Washington D-C. Noem says Perry has big shoes to fill in taking over for Price. Noem calls Price an outstanding leader and public servant whose experience and insight have been valuable to her during his service. Price says serving on Noem’s cabinet has been the highlight of his career in law enforcement.
