The Pierre Governor soccer teams return home after Saturday losses to Spearfish and will face an even tougher challenge as they host the Harrisburg Tigers.
The Governor boys will play first and will face a team who has already tied three times this year including a 2-2 tie to Watertown. Harrisburg is 2-1-3 on the season and just one spot below the Governors in the standings. As Pierre fights for a home playoff game in 10th place right now, this is a must win game to keep the Tigers behind them in the standings.
The Governor girls might be playing the best team in the state this evening. The Tigers are the defending state champions, beat the Govs in the quarterfinals last year and return Hailee Christensen, one of the best players in the state. The Governors will have their hands full trying to contain the 5-1 Tigers. Harrisburg’s only loss came to Mitchell 3-2, in the first game of the season. Pierre will deal with the Kernels on Saturday, September 16.
Coverage of the day will begin at 3:40 with kickoff of the boys game at 4:00 and the girls game will follow around 6:00. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
