Governors Survive Warm Gym, Defeat Mitchell

While it would be one of the coolest days in the last two months, the Pierre Governors and Mitchell Kernels played in a scorching gym with the Governors beating Mitchell in four sets on Tuesday.

Pierre would win 25-19, 17-25, 25-15 and 25-20 to improve to 4-1 on the season. Pierre had a solid first set, but the heat would start to become a factor in the second set and the mental game lacked for the Govs. However, the extra time given between sets, Pierre would leave the gym to cool off and came back on fire rolling in the third set and then holding off a comeback bid in the fourth set.

Pierre would be led by Reese Terwilliger and Abigail Kropp with 12 kills each while Campbell Boddicker finished with nine. Elly Broers would score five aces as Pierre had a total of nine in the win.

Mitchell, now 2-6, was led by Sawyer Stoebner’s 10 kills while Hope Flippin would finish with eight.

Pierre will be at home this weekend as they face Sturgis on Friday and Spearfish on Saturday. Saturday’s contest will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with first serve at 2:00.
