Junior running back Gavin Barber amassed 365 yards on the ground, and scored an incredible six times, helping the Sully Buttes Chargers knock off the pesky Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders 62-32 Friday afternoon at SBA field.
The Chargers piled up 470 total yards, but the Crusaders found rhythm through the air and on the ground to total 359 yards of their own to stay in the game.
Despite Barbers performance, Sully Buttes tried to find success passing, and to some degree they did. Sophomore QB Wesley Wittler found four receivers and finished with 62 yards, but with the rush finding success, they decided to keep on the ground. The Crusaders junior quarterback Dominic Kalacinski had 242 yards through the air finding success with 6’4″ junior Jimmy Burma, who tallied 204 yards receiving.
The 1-2 Chargers now turn their attention to Homecoming Week after Labor Day, and will face top ranked Faulkton Area next Friday with a scheduled 2PM kickoff. The 0-3 Crusaders have their bye week before traveling to Watertown the following Saturday to take on Great Plains Lutheran.
