Saturday afternoon the Pierre Governor soccer teams will be in Spearfish in a matchup with plenty of seed points on the line.
The Governor girls are now 4-0 and have moved inside the top five of the AA standings and face Spearfish who is at 3-2-1 on the season having beaten both Yankton and Sturgis in its last two games. Spearfish also has a win over powerful Aberdeen 1-0 to begin the season so the Spartans are team ready to compete in 2023. The Governors have allowed just one goal in four games and have outscored its opponents 27-1 to this point.
The Governor boys are coming off an offensive high on Tuesday with a six goal performance by six different Govs. Now they face the Spartans who started the season at 3-0 but had a 2-2 draw to O’Gorman and a 4-1 loss to Yankton. Spearfish does have wins over Huron and Aberdeen Central, two teams who are expecting to have good seasons. It’s another tough challenge for this young Governor squad.
Both varsity games will kickoff at the same time at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex in Spearfish on Saturday. Both games begin at 2:00 Central Time.
