The Pierre Governor football team would build up a 49-0 lead at the end of the half and cruise to the final score with the running clock in the second half to defeat the Brookings Bobcats in the home opener.
The Governors would go three and out in the first possession of the game but Spencer Easland would intercept his first of two passes on the night to get the Govs right back into position to score. Jett Zabel would catch the very next place for a 26 yard touchdown pass from Cade Kaiser to get the Govs on the board. Brock Moser would cap a six play drive with a one yard run and then a 19 yard touchdown score on an option play to get Pierre up 21-0. Zabel would catch a second touchdown pass to make it 28-0 and then the defense and special teams took over. Trey Lewis would have a 65 yard punt return to the house to give the Govs a 35-0 lead before Carson Stoeser would have his second interception in as may games and return it 36 yards to the house to increase the lead to 42-0 for Pierre. Zabel completed the hat trick with his third touchdown grab as the Govs didn’t need to score in the second half to roll to a shutout win. Ryann Barry would make all seven extra points.
The Governors will now travel to Mitchell on Friday looking for a third straight win. Coverage will begin at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
