After a fairly tight first set, the Miller Rustlers used their experience and team play to pull away against Sully Buttes with a 25-18, 25-8, 25-16 three game sweep of the Chargers in Onida.
Unforced hitting errors and lack of communication had the Chargers out of step against a Miller Rustler team that finished in fourth place in state last season. Even though the Rustlers graduated seven seniors from last years team, they showed solid play with a balanced attack. Junior Aleah Schlecter led the way with nine kills, while senior Shaylee Anderberg added eight for the 3-1 Rustlers. Miller head coach Linda DeBoer coached her 698th game of her 30 year career.
The Chargers started strong, but seemed to lose focus on hits, but still looked strong with blocks at the net. The Chargers committed six service errors to Millers’ three.
Next up for 3-3 Sully Buttes is a Tuesday Homecoming match against Ipswich. Miller will host Class B powerhouse Warner next Tuesday.
