Governor Boys Win Shootout, Girls Shutout Watertown in Sweep

The Pierre Governors would defeat the Watertown Arrows on Tuesday in a wild boys game 6-4 before girls would shutout the Arrows 3-0 to sweep the day.

In the boys game, Riley Fisher would score less than three minutes into the game off a corner kick, one of the 13 in the game for the Arrows. Pierre would tie the game on Cayden Morris’ strike from Caleb Morris to tie the game at 1-1 with 25 minutes remaining in the first half. Watertown would score with Fisher’s second to go up 2-1 with 12 minutes remaining and it could have been 3-1 if the Arrows had converted on a penalty kick in the half. However, Pierre would get a PK with 10:42 remaining in the half and Steven Blanchette wouldn’t miss to tie the game at 2-2. Exactly 30 seconds later Caiden Ahartz would find Jacoby LaRoche on a cross to make it 3-2 before Ahartz would score one of his own three minutes later to make it 4-2. Watertown again would score to cut it to one, but Javier Pretell Alegre would make a move around a defender and hit the back of the net with 14 seconds left in the half to give Pierre a 5-3 lead. Watertown made it 5-4 with 14 minutes left in the second half but Caleb Morris would make it six different goal scorers as he would net a goal with six minutes to go and the Govs improve to 2-1-1 with a 6-4 high scoring affair.

The girls game would be the exact opposite. After the first half the score remained 0-0, but Grace Engbrecht would take a pass from Lexie Hillmer and score not even five minutes into the second half which would the eventual game winner. Ryann Barry and Jasmine Jost would both score off crosses from Bria Sargent and Emlyn Swanson would make four saves for another shutout and Pierre improves to 4-0 with the win.

The Governors will travel to Spearfish on Saturday. The game times have moved up an hour as both varsity teams will play at 2:00 Central Time against the Spartans.
