Governors Shutout Aberdeen Central to Begin 2023 Season

The Pierre Governors were methodical in its approach on Friday and would carry a 32-0 shutout victory over the Golden Eagles to begin the season.

The Governors would turn the ball over in its first possession of the game with a fumble, but the defense would quickly force a three-and-out before the Governors would take a 13 play drive to the house on a five yard touchdown run by Cade Kaiser. Pierre would get another score to go up 12-0 late in the first half as Kaiser would find freshman Cooper Terwilliger for a seven yard score. Late in the half, Aberdeen reached the red zone but an errant pass by quarterback Parker Lemer would give Carson Stoeser his first interception of his career and he would return from the end zone to the Aberdeen Central 31 yard line and a 31 yard pass from Kaiser to Jett Zabel and the extra point kicked by senior Ryann Barry made it 19-0 at the half. Barry would become just the third girl in Pierre Governor football history to score a point.

In the second half, Pierre would be pinned back on its own one yard line and would take a six play drive to score as Kaiser would scamper 49 yards to the house. One more throw and catch from Kaiser and Zabel of 15 yards to finish out the job in the 32-0 win. The Governor offense had over 450 yards while Aberdeen Central never hit the century mark at just 82 yards of total offense.

Pierre will have its home opener against Brookings on Friday. Coverage will begin at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
