Experience Pays off in Potter County Victory over Sully Buttes

Despite the statistics being fairly close, the Potter County Battlers took advantage of Sully Buttes turnovers, and came away with a 26-12 victory Friday night in Hoven.

Potter County was led by senior Carter Luikens 78 yards on the ground, and junior Landon Larsons’ 158 yards through the air. The Battlers scored on a Ryder Falkenhagen 70 yard punt return, a Larson one yard run, and two TD’s through the air from Larson to Falkenhagen, a 94 yard strike, and a Larson to Luikens 8 yard score. The Battlers had 288 total yards of offense, compared to the Chargers 215.

Sully Buttes was led once again by Gavin Barber, who finished the night with 178 yards on the ground, and two rushing TD’s, but could only muster nine yards passing from sophomore quarterback Wesley Wittler who had to scramble to stay alive on passing situations. The Battlers recovered a fumble deep in their own territory and scored, and also had a Falkenhagen interception which helped kill a Charger drive.

Sully Buttes started with another interception of their own with Wittler tracking down a pass to quash the Battlers first drive. But eventually, Potter County used the clock and long sustaining drives to keep the Chargers at bay.

Next up for Sully Buttes is another road contest to Sunshine Bible Academy to face the Crusaders Friday afternoon, while Potter County, after treating the town of Hoven with a Homecoming victory, will have their first road game Friday against powerful Faulkton Area.
