Today begins the season to potentially define history. The Pierre Governors begin its journey for an unprecedented seven straight state championships as they face Aberdeen Central on the road.
The Governors will have a different look, but not an unfamiliar look. Of the starters who graduated, Pierre will have five starters return on offensively which includes offensive linemen in Matthew Coverdale and Matthew Brewer, the tight end Jett Zabel, the tailback in Brock Moser and Cade Kaiser who will go from a receiver to quarterback. Pierre will also return four starters on defense, one at every level. Emmit Anderson returns on the defensive line while Trey Lewis and Chance Carda return as linebackers and Spencer Easland is a returning cornerback. Spencer Skjonsberg, who is already verbally committed to play college football played a big role last year and will be in the starting line up tonight. Steve Steele, head coach of the Pierre Governors, says it’s fun to see the progression of this group of players…
Steele says Aberdeen Central has a very good offensive line…
Steele says getting a lead early is key tonight…
Pregame coverage will start at 6:30 tonight from Gene Brownell Complex in Aberdeen. Kick off is at 7:00 and can be heard on KCCR and able to watch on YouTube for free at KCCR Sports. Jon Winkler has the call.
