Pierre Soccer Continues Road Matchups in Sturgis

The Pierre Governor soccer teams return to the pitch after having Tuesday’s game postponed because of the heat as the Govs will face the Sturgis Scoopers on the road tonight.

The Governors girls are coming in at 2-0 while Sturgis is now at 2-1 after its shutout win 7-0 over Belle Fourche on Tuesday. The Scoopers have both of its wins in shutouts, also beating Huron 6-0 last weekend. However, its lone loss is a 10-2 stomping by the Mitchell Kernels to open up the season. The Governors will look to play their game ready to pick up a third win on the season.

The Pierre boys will be looking for its second win of the season as they also face a 2-1 Sturgis team. The Scoopers beat Belle Fourche 5-0 on Tuesday and split its weekend trip to Mitchell and Huron with a 4-2 win over the Kernels and a 2-1 loss to Huron. Pierre shutout Sturgis last season with a 3-0 win, but the Scooper team, by scores will be a much tougher squad to go against than in year’s past.

Coverage of the doubleheader will begin at 4:40 with the girls playing first at 5:00 and the boys to follow, all Central Time. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
