Governors in Aberdeen for ESD Contest

The Pierre Governor soccer teams will head up to Aberdeen today for a girls and boys ESD doubleheader as both teams look for big wins.

The Governor girls are coming off a huge win last Tuesday, dominating Roosevelt to a 6-1 victory and are 2-0 to start the season. Aberdeen Central is 2-1 to begin the season having lost its opener to Spearfish 1-0 before beating both Jefferson and Brookings. Pierre has seen two hat tricks by two different players after Ryann Barry scored seven goals against Douglas and Gracelyn Taylor had four goals against Roosevelt.

With a tie last Tuesday to Roosevelt, the Pierre boys team will be looking to make amends against a 0-3 Aberdeen Central team who has lost to Spearfish, Jefferson and Brookings to open the season. Pierre scored late last Tuesday to tie Roosevelt and while they were hoping for a win, the chances will still be there and will eventually find the back of the net. Pierre had several really good looks that just missed last week and will be trying to capitalize on those chances.

Because of the extreme heat, the start times have been pushed back two hours so the girls varsity game will start at 6:00 with the boys varsity game to be played around 8:00 at the Gene Brownell Complex.
