Ringneck And Western Still Working On Upgrades To Former Mitchell To Rapid City Line

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Ringneck and Western Railroad continues moving forward on upgrades to the former Mitchell to Rapid City line that runs from Mtichell to Presho. Air, Rail and Transit Program Manager Jack Dokken says a meet-and-pass siding on that line in Brule County is being planned…

That siding would be located two miles east of Kimball, just east of a large grain elevator on the line. Another project, in Lyman County is also waiting for environmental studies to be completed…

Dokken says the state’s rail operators are busy with projects and investments in the state’s rail system…

South Dakota currently has 10 active railroad grants. Over 80 million dollars is being requested through grant applications. The largest project is the rebuilding of the Pierre to Rapid City subdivision on the Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern Railroad at 84-million dollars.
