Man Killed In Lyman County I-90 Crash Tuesday Night

RELIANCE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 70 year-old man was killed in a crash Tuesday night on Interstate 90 in Lyman County. The crash happened six miles west of Reliance at mile marker 242 around 7:10 pm. The preliminary investigation of the crash indicates a 2019 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer was traveling east when a tire blew out in the drive lane. As the semi slowed to pull over on the shoulder it was struck from behind by a 2021 Toyota Highlander. The driver of the Highlander was pronounced dead at the scene. He was using a seat belt at the time. The 48 year-old driver of the semi was also using a seat belt but was not injured in the crash. The names of those involved in the crash are being withheld pending notification of family members. The Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation of the crash.
