Pierre Looks To Take Precautions Against Electrical Equipment Damage From Vehicles

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The City of Pierre is looking to move forward with protecting its electrical system from a unique foe, vehicle traffic. City Utilities Director Brad Palmer says the city’s electrical consultant wants to find a solution to protect electric infrastructure from automobile crashes…

The structures included in the proposal are an electric switch near the State Health Lab on 4th Street and two transmission poles east of the Health Lab switch also on 4th Street near Mickelson Pond. One of those poles was replaced following a crash in March. Included in the proposal are two switches near Lakeside Lane and Country Drive although those switches would be included in a future project. Palmer says the barriers would also take snow drifting into consideration as well…

The scope of the project will include the Fourth Street barriers and topographic work on the Lakeside Lane/Country Drive switches and three other locations not mentioned. The estimated cost of the work proposed is 34-thousand, two-hundred dollars. Commissioners approved the measure on a five-zero vote.
