Governor Girls Dominate, Boys Score Late to Tie

In the home opener on Tuesday, the Pierre Governor girls would have no problems beating the Roosevelt Roughriders 6-1 while the boys would score within the final five minutes to tie the Roughriders 1-1.

In the girls game, Gracelyn Taylor would have a great game scoring four times which included the first two goals to give Pierre a 2-0 lead around the midway point of the first half. Reed Curry would make it 3-0 at the half. Roosevelt would score within the first minute of the second half and pulled within 3-1 before Ireland Templeton would score on a free kick to put Pierre up 4-1 and then Taylor would get her next two goals to bust open the lead to five. Ryann Barry would get three assists and move into second all-time in assists in Pierre Governor history.

In the boys game, Pierre’s offense would get a looks, but couldn’t cash in through the first half. Late in the half, Roosevelt would strike as Karsen Balster would give the Roughriders the lead. Heading into the second half, Roosevelt was poised to win its first game since the 2021 season, but it would be Caiden Ahartz to score his first varsity goal with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Pierre earns the split and salvages what could have been an upset.

The Pierre girls are 2-0 while the boys are 1-0-1 and will travel to Aberdeen on Tuesday to face the Golden Eagles. Kickoff of the girls game will be at 4:00 with the boys game at 6:00.
