Pierre Dominates for Two Shutouts to Start Season

Both the Pierre Governor boys and girls soccer teams would blank the Douglas Patriots on Friday opening the season with two big wins as the girls would win 11-0 and the boys 3-0.

Ryann Barry would score seven times in the win for the Govs having an incredible start to her senior year. The Govs would still have five different goal scorers as Jasmine Jost, Reed Curry, Josephine Weurtz and Grace Engebrecht all would score. The Govs forced run time in the second half and also had the game end early as they had the 11-0 lead with 20 minutes remaining in the second half which enacted the mercy rule. Pierre never relented on the attack.

The Pierre boys, while not scoring as many goals, still applied the offense heavily on the Patriots. Caleb Morris would score and Jacoby LaRoche would net two goals for the new look Governors. The two have had varsity experience, but overall the Govs had plenty of first time varsity members on the field and were able to dominate their way to a victory. Haley Fabel would pick up the shutout in his first varsity start to begin his senior year.

The Governors will be at home on Tuesday to take on the Roosevelt Roughriders. Roosevelt girls tied Jefferson while the boys dropped a 3-1 decision to the Cavaliers. Coverage of the doubleheader will begin at 3:45 with the girls game to start at 4:00 and the boys game to follow on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
