Governors Begin Team Title Defense Hosting Opening Weekend

This weekend the Pierre Governor tennis team will open up the season with plenty of new faces, but do so at home facing four teams over two days on Friday and Saturday.

The Governors will see two ESD teams in Yankton and Huron while also taking on two West River schools in Rapid City Christian and Spearfish. For a lot of these girls, it will be their first taste of full time varsity play. Megan Bauck, head coach of the Governors, likes the two day event to help get the girls into the swing of the season and to be at home is a good start…

The competition just to crack the varsity flights is tough and you have to continue to earn your spot throughout the season. Bauck says what you see at the beginning of the season, may not the same as the end of the season…

Bauck says she’s excited to get the season rolling…

Pierre will face Yankton starting at 1:00 today and then Rapid City Christian this evening. The Govs will resume the weekend at 8:00 AM on Saturday taking on Spearfish before wrapping up with Huron around 2:00. Matches will be played at both Griffin and Labarge parks.
