DOT To Install Permanent Signal Light Poles At Yellowstone/14-83 Intersection Wednesday

FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Work on the Yellowstone Street intersection with Highways 14, 83 and 34 in Fort Pierre will be even closer to complete with the addition of permanent signal poles to the intersection on Wednesday. The intersection is being redesigned as part of the John C. Waldron Memorial Bridge project. Drilling for the poles began in mid-July with reinforcing steel and conduit being added. The work is expected to be completed between the morning and afternoon rush hour commutes. Motorist may encounter a 10 to 15 minute delay while the work is being conducted through the work zone. Alternate routes away from the work zone are encouraged. The only possible, logical detour to avoid the intersection is a 15-mile bypass over the Oahe Dam. It was not disclosed when traffic signaling at the intersection will be transferred to the new signals from the temporary signal lights currently in place. The bridge is expected to be open for traffic in about a year in the summer of 2024.
