Post 8 15/16 Rolls to First Game Win, 14U and 13U Fall in Opening Game

A big win for the Pierre Post 8 15/16 opening up the state tournament while the 14U and 13U teams will try and finish 2-1 in pool play on Friday and Saturday.

The Post 8 15/16 would route Renner in the first game of the 15/16 state tournament in Sioux Falls with a 12-3 win.

Ayden Behm would go the distance for the win to help save the pitching staff heading into the second day of pool play as he would allow just three runs on five hits on three walks and six strikeouts. Behm also did it with the bat as well as he 2-4 with three RBIs as Parker O’Bryan also had three runs driven in on 2-4 performance at the plate. Eight of the nine hitters had multiple hits for Post 8 as Will Danburg went 3-4.

Post 8 was down 1-0 after the first inning but tied the game in the top of the second and then scored six runs in the third and another four runs in the fourth to take the 11-1 lead. Pierre would take advantage of six Renner errors as only two runs were earned.

Pierre will face Sioux Falls East 5:00 Friday and then Yankton at 10:30 Saturday morning. If Pierre wins the pool they will advance to the semifinals on Sunday.

14U

Sioux Falls would beat Pierre Post 8 6-4 in Renner on Thursday as the comeback would come up just short.

Sioux Falls would score four runs in the bottom of the fourth and another two in the fifth as they would take a 6-0 lead into the seventh. However, Will Eilers would clear the bases with a double after an RBI from Porter Hunsley and the EIghts came back to make it 6-4 in the seventh. However, Post 15 would shut the door and beat Pierre in the opening game of the state tournament.

Brennan McCullough would pick up the loss going all six innings allowing six runs, four earned on nine hits, one walk and a strikeout. Carter Templeton went 3-3 at the plate while Eilers had two hits as the two combined for five of the six hits in total for Pierre Post 8.

Pierre will face Mitchell on Friday at noon in the second game of the tournament and finish pool play against Harrisburg on Saturday at 9:30 AM. If Pierre wins the two games they will win the pool and advance to the semifinal round on Sunday.

13U

Watertown would pick up a 5-1 win over Pierre in the first game of the 13U state tournament on Thursday.

Maddox Dokken would pick up the loss on the mound giving up four runs, none of them earned on five hits, one walk and struck out four Watertown hitters. Pierre had just five hits in the loss.

Pierre will face Renner at 5:00 on Friday in Brookings and then Huron at 2:30 on Saturday.
