Little Change In South Dakota Drought Conditions As Worst Drought Downgraded To Severe

PIERRE — There is little change this week in the U-S Drought Monitor in South Dakota. That doesn’t mean conditions in some areas haven’t gotten better. What little extreme level drought existed has been eliminated this week and severe drought has been cut in half from eight-percent to four-percent. Brule County has seen severe drought eliminated from that county, going from 43-percent last week to zero-percent this week. Buffalo also saw the elimination of severe drought, from nine-and-a-half percent to zero. Stanley County remains about 75-percent drought free this week, with abnormally dry conditions along the Missouri River. Hughes County is 100-percent abnormally dry. Sully County remains about 60-percent in no drought and 40-percent abnormally dry. The worst drought now in central South Dakota is severe drought in Buffalo, Brule, eastern Lyman, northeast Tripp, southeast Hyde and southern Hand Counties.
