2023 Class A Legion State Tournament Begins Today in Yankton

Beginning today in Yankton, the Class A Legion State Tournament will take place with a trip to the Central Plains Regional on the line,

Rapid City Post 22 will be the host of the Regional again this year so any team in the championship with the Hardhats will automatically qualify for the regional. If the Hardhats don’t make the championship, the state champion will join the Hardhats in Rapid City with the likes of teams from Minnesota, North Dakota and Nebraska. With only four states, two teams from each state will gather in Rapid City which run August 2-6.

Sioux Falls East is the favorite coming in as the top seed and might have the most depth to match any team throughout the week. Meanwhile, Yankton makes its return trip to the state tournament for the first time since 2019, although the host, still finished as the number three seed and will look to use the home field advantage in the tournament. Aberdeen and Harrisburg Maroon both won their matchups on the road, the first time since the format has gone to a best-of-three first round in which two lower seeds won the first round matchup.
