Eights Swept in Rapid City

Pierre Post 8 nearly had a comeback in the second game of the first round series, but Rapid City Post 22 would retire the last 10 straight hitters and sweep the Eights 6-5 and advance to the state tournament.

Pierre went down 1-0 in the first inning after a two out walk turned into an RBI double from Alex Dietrich, but an RBI fielder’s choice from Jonny Lyons would tie the game at 1-1. However, three hitters were hit by a pitch in the second and all three scored as Rapid City Post 22 would take a 6-1 lead. The game remained the same until the bottom of the fourth when Carter Sanderson and Nolan Peterson would both single and with two outs, an error committed by the third baseman would extend the inning and the bases loaded as Matt Hanson would get an RBI single and a wild pitch to score Peterson and then a two RBI single by Jett Zabel closed the gap to 6-5. However, Palmer Jacobs would retire the last 10 hitters in a row to finish the Eights season at 9-28. Zabel would pick up the loss allowing all six runs in six innings of work on five hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Ridge Leimbach would pitch the seventh throwing all seven pitches for strikes.

Post 22 advances to the state tournament which will be played in Yankton starting on Tuesday.
