SUMMMERSET — A 17 year-old female from Kadoka was injured in a fatal crash over the weekend. The name of the teen was not released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. The 17 year-old was a passenger in a 2023 Kia Sportage driven by 16 year-old Jayden Hayford of Faith. Hayford was killed in the crash. The crash happened on Interstate 90 near mile marker 50 in Meade County. The preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2023 Freightliner semi was parked on the shoulder of the interstate. As the semi merged back into traffic the Kia struck the trailer and became lodged under the trailer. The trailer was traveling around 45 to 50 miles an hour when the crash happened. Hayford was not using a seat belt pronounced dead at the scene. The 17 year-old passenger was also not using a seat belt and suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. The truck’s driver, 54 year-old Oscar Rodriguez of Midland, Texas was using a seat belt and was not injured. The crash closed the interstate for approximately two and a half hours Saturday night.
