DOT Pulls Weight Limit On Highway 34 In Hyde County

STEPHAN — Weight limits put on a section of South Dakota Highway 34 in Hyde County have been removed. A six-ton maximum axle weight limit was established on the 12-mile stretch of asphalt from the Hughes County line to South Dakota Highway 47 at Mac’s Corner near Stephan. The South Dakota Department of Transportation has made repairs to the highway; needed because of increased usage by heavy vehicles. Repairs to the highway have been completed but the road will continued to be monitored for additional break up or degradation. The repairs are designed to get that part of the highway to 2024. Plans are in the works to make more permanent repairs to that part of Highway 34 next year with a milling and overlay project. More information on areas of construction and general road conditions can be found online at sd-511-dot-org.
