Drought Conditions Continue To Make Improvement In South Dakota

PIERRE — Drought conditions across South Dakota saw major improvement over last week. Areas of no drought across the state have grown from 48-percent to 63-percent. Dewey, Ziebach, Haakon, Jackson, Jones and Potter Counties are 100-percent drought free. Sully County is 60-percent drought-free. Stanley County is now 75-percent in no drought. Other drought free counties include Lyman at 43-percent; Mellette at 70-percent, Hand at eight-percent, Hyde at 31-percent and Tripp at 13-percent. The worst drought in central South Dakota is across eastern Brule and southeast Buffalo with severe drought. Moderate drought is in Buffalo, western Brule, eastern Lyman, southern Hand and southeast Hyde. Extreme drought has greatly dropped in coverage this week, going from three-percent to point-two percent. An area of no drought is also in place across northern South Dakota north of Highway 212 to Highway 281.
